How to win at blackjack

There is not really one sure mathematical way to win blackjack, because you cannot be sure of the kind of puzzle you are dealing with; however, most of the winning in blackjack might have used some common approaches.

Blackjack is all about numbers and probability. The objective in blackjack is to acquire a hand totaling 21 with two cards, for instance, Ace and King or nearer to it with more cards. You must also get a healthier total than the dealer. If your cards total 22 or more, you’re bust. If your first two cards’ sum is 13 and the dealer’s up-card is a King, you claim for another card (‘hit’), hoping for an 8 or less. If the next card is an Ace, which counts as one or 11, you hope for a 7 and hit again.

However, if the total of your cards is 17, either with two cards or after hitting, trying to further develop your hand is too unsafe. Some casino rules dictate the dealer must end at a hard 17 for instance, 8 and 9. Some casinos say a dealer must stop on soft 17 e.g., Ace and 6. Others rule that it must be played as a sum of 7. If your hand is 17, you hope the dealer has to stop at 17 or goes bust. If he equals your hand, you don’t lose or win. It’s a stand-off. If he busts, he will return a match of your stake.

There are three ways to win at blackjack:

  1. Act on your guts perceptions concerning whether to obtain another card, have no understanding of splitting or doubling-down and, especially, never look at the dealer’s up-card. As you’re basically giving the casino an unnecessary 30% advantage, you’ll be dead snake!
  2. Learn basic blackjack strategy. This is the shrewdest choice. Thanks to computer programs that have tested how to play every possible hand millions of times, players
need not make decisions founded on gut reactions or ignorance. Basic strategy has converted the pot-luck approach of pontoon, and playing hands from intuition instead of computerized judgment is old-hat.

Using basic strategy, you’ll win more often, even if you’ll occasionally get defeated. And remember that the odds stay against you, so managing your bets and having a clear monetary strategy for winning or losing is vital.

  3. Exercise card-counting technique. This is the best way to win. Managed well, card counting overturns the odds. In place of the odds favoring the casino by about 2% even for a good basic strategy player, a card counter effects the odds to perhaps 2% in his favor.
