When playing craps in a casino you are playing against the house, unlike games like poker where there can only be one winner per round. The table is an oval shape with high padded walls. These high walls are there to stop the dice from rolling off the table. Depending on the table size up to 16 players can play at one table.
Most casinos will have several craps tables with different table minimums and maximum bet limits. The player rolling the dice is called the shooter. The shooter must place a pass or don't pass bet to be eligible to be the shooter. The other players at the table can make any number of different bets on what they think the outcome of the dice rolls will be. You may be thinking that this will put pressure on you to do well, but remember this is a game of chance. The dice will come out however chance dictates and as some people may lose lots of money on the outcome of your rolls no one would ever blame you for your rolls.
The dice used in craps are standard six sided dice. The pit boss will randomly come to the table and check the weight and size of the dice to ensure that no shooter or stick man has switched to loaded dice to rig the game. From time to time the pit boss will also change the dice with new dice. The dice are numbered from one to six with little white dots. This means that one dot is for one and 6 dots represent the number six. The total of the number of white dots on the dice that are facing up are referred to as the roll
One game of Craps usually consists of several rolls of the dice. If on the first roll of the dice a 2, 3, or a 12 is rolled it is called craps and the game is over. All players with bets on the pass line lose their money. All players that have bets on Don't pass win, unless it says don't pass bar and the roll is the same as the number shown in the don't pass bar area, in most cases it is a 12 and this would mean that it is a push and any bets on this line would be returned. If on the first roll a 7 or an 11 is rolled anyone with bets on the pass line win.
If the come out roll is not a 2, 3, 7, 11 or a 12 then whatever the total of the 2 dice are becomes the point. Now you are betting that the shooter will roll whatever the point is before a 7 is rolled. If you bet on the pass line and the shooter rolls the point before rolling a 7 all pass bets are paid 1:1. If you bet on don't pass and the shooter rolls a 7 then you would also be paid 1:1. Once the shooter makes the point or rolls a 7 the game is over and a new shooter is picked.
Once the shooter has made his first role pass line bets can not be removed, but they you can raise your bet and Bets on the don't pass line are just the opposite. Bets on the don't pass line may be lowered during the game but may not be raised.
If on the come out role the player craps out or wins on this role they may have another come out roll, otherwise the dice are passed to the players left and a new game begins.
