Leadership Change In The Casino Island - Macau

There is a new leader to be elected soon for Macau. It is well known that the Macau is the only Chinese city where gambling is approved.

Elections are up and chances seem to be more favorable for Fernado Chui.  He will be decided upon by a 300 member election panel this Sunday.  It should be noted that this is the first ever change of the leadership in the island after the island was returned to Chinese rule in a decade ago.

The new leader is going to face with a lot of hurdles in meeting up with the economic stimulus for the region because the gambling island is now under the pressures of declining revenues due to economic recession.

Most of the hotel rooms in the casinos are empty due to lack of player traffic.  Several investors who have planned multi-million dollar casino plans have put it off for now until the economy recovers.

The prospective leader Chui, aged 52, the Minister of Culture is from a very well-known family in the locality.  He states he has several plans to deal with the gaming industry and in bringing forth a revival to the industry.  However, it is being perceived that he might not cut down taxes to help the island compete over Singapore where several new casinos are likely to be up next year.

He is also not likely to provide with permission to increase the number of gaming tables.  The current number of licenses will stay to be the same and so would be the governing taxes and other gaming policies.

"If I am elected, I shall take an integrated approach to development and make great efforts to promote the sustainable growth of gaming-related industries," was his comment in his website. The rest is to be witnessed after he is up in the throne.
